From Airport to Tzu Chi University

The OIA will arrange a one-time pickup service for international students from Taoyuan International Airport directly to Tzu Chi University, Hualien. For the date of pickup, please refer to “Dates to Note.” Please arrange to arrive during this period, and please also reply to the International Affairs Office’s pick-up email.

Apply for a New Cell Phone Number at the Airport (See Airport Map)
You can bring your ID card, issued by your government (or the Entry Visa), and your passport to sign up for a cell phone plan. It’s highly recommended that you sign up for a new cell phone plan at the Airport when you arrive; otherwise, you will need a Taiwanese citizen as your guarantor, should you decide to sign up later. Should You Decide to Travel Directly from the Airport to Tzu Chi University Campus, You May Follow the Directions Below:

Travel by railway:

  1. Make sure that you have applied a new cell phone number at the airport and have cash (TWD) available.
  2. Follow the airport map to go to Taoyuan Airport MRT station or bus stop.
  3. Take  airport MRT to Taipei  Main Station, and follow the sign of to go to Taipei Railway Station. The travel time is around 45 minutes, and it costs NT$160.
  4. If you prefer a bus ride, you may take Kuo-Kuang Bus #1819 to Taipei  Railway Station. The travel time takes approximately 60 minutes, and the fare is NT$140.
  5. Go to Taipei Railway Station lobby. Ticket vending machines and ticket counters are located in the center of the lobby.
  6. Travel time from Taipei to Hualien is approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes, depending on the train, and the ticket costs around NT$440.
  7. Exit Hualien Railway Station, and take a taxi to Tzu Chi University Main Campus. The travel time is 10 minutes, and the taxi fare costs approximately NT$120; or to Jieren Campus, which takes 10 minutes, and costs approximately NT$160.

Travel by air:

  1. Take Kuo-Kuang Bus #1840 to Songshan Airport in Taipei. The travel time is 60 minutes, and costs NT$140.
  2. Fly from Songshan Airport to Hualien Airport. The travel time is 45 minutes and costs approximatelyNT$1,500.
  3. Take a taxi from Hualien Airport to Tzu Chi University Main Campus. The travel time is 10 minutes and costs approximately NT$200; to Jieren Campus it takes 15 minutes and costs approximately NT$225.

There are ONLY two flights daily, so plan your schedule early.
