TCU is 67th in THE University Impact Rankings 2019 and First Place in Taiwan

THE (Times Higher Education) pioneered this new ranking in 2019 that assesses universities’ social and economic impact based on eleven United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). TCU does very well in SDG 3 – Good health and well-being and SDG 12 – Responsible consumption and production.
 This is the first time TCU has participated in this ranking and it ranks among the top 100 in the world. President Pen-Jung Wang pointed out that this ranking focuses on universities’ social and economic impact by employing eleven United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including sustainable cities and communities, responsible consumption and production, decent work and economic growth, climate action, reduced inequalities, etc. These SDGs are comparable to TCU’s tradition, and are also goals we have been devoted to in our teaching and research. TCU is honored to be in 67th place and we are happy that we have made contributions to attend to domestic and global needs. This ranking also reflects our endeavor in helping our students acquire professional knowledge and skills and, moreover, to enhance their humanity.

Silent Mentor Program

The Silent Mentor Program is TCU’s innovative way of teaching anatomy. Students take part in classes and ceremonies; they gain knowledge and learn the selfless giving on behalf of donors through this involvement student’s altruistic spirits are cultivated.

Students visit donor’s family before the class and get to know the donor; students attend the opening ceremony, place the donor in the casket right after completing the course. The last day, students participate in burial ceremonies offering gratuity and showing humility.

Donors leave a legacy of love and greatly benefit society. Students gain medical knowledge and skill as they learn to care for their future patients and patient’s families.

The Silent Mentor program offers endoscopic training to familiarize students with surgical skills. Most importantly, it enables seven year medical students to enhance their basic clinical skills and confidence to properly prepare them to serve others.

Learning Environment

Tzu Chi University classes create an intimate environment and foster conversation; the ration of faculty to students is maintained around 1:10.

Small classes enhance interaction between professor and students, with equal emphasis on lecturing and discussion. The university encourages students to be self-motivated in learning.

To enhance the student’s learning and to encourage them to interact with professors, TCU provides multimedia educational systems, the university also employs Interactive Response Systems for professors to teach vividly and create two-way communication.

TCU also encourages professors to follow passions and allocates funds for research and assists with various campus projects.
