TCU Student Wins 1st Place in First Phase of National Licensing Examination for Chinese Medicine Practitioner

TCU’s Chinese Medicine students did very well in the 2018 National Licensing Examination of Chinese Medicine Practitioner. Zhi-Chang Lin took the 1st place and Nai-Hwa Jheng was 2nd. The good news was announced on April 10, 2018. Both of them are in the Class of 2016, and nine other classmates were in the top 20 of this exam. TCU’s Chinese Medicine students have been doing very well every year. All students passed the National Licensing Exam in 2014, and Zhao-Lin Fu took 1st place in 2017.

Nationwide, 118 examinees passed this exam in 2018, and 33 among them were TCU students. Department Chairperson I-Hsin Lin pointed out that the keys to their success were the faculty members’ endeavors and students’ humane dispositions. He often reminded students to be grateful, pass on the fine tradition(s), help each other and build team spirit. Students did feel grateful, as senior students passed on the fine tradition to their juniors. Students organized study groups to help each other, and they manifested a great team spirit.

Zhi-Chang Lin, who won 1st place, is grateful to faculty members and his peers for helping him study in an effective way. He used to be a physical therapist, but chose to study Chinese medicine to fulfill his dream of becoming a doctor. He feels that a person can do very little, yet team efforts will be quite different. Chinese medicine is broad and profound, and thus team work is crucial to Chinese medicine practitioners. He wishes to follow in the steps of his seniors, to intern at hospitals, learn from other professionals, and help others to make their dreams come true.

Nai-Hwa Jheng, who was in 2^nd place, feels appreciated to her seniors for assisting her, and to her peers for helping each other. Her seniors assisted her to grasp the important points of the licensing exam, and she and her peers helped each other, which was much better than studying alone.

Chairperson I-Hsin Lin prepared a bronze acupuncture figure for each student, and will give it to them when the entire class passes the licensing exam. “Gross Anatomy” was a course in the first semester. Students learned in the class, and near the end of the semester, they performed the Gratitude Ceremony to say thanks to their “Silent Mentors.” Chairperson Lin was touched by the students’ great team efforts. He witnessed that going through the “Silent Mentor” Program, students were grateful and willing to share more about what they learned. He believes that students will love to share and pass on their experiences to others, when practicing Chinese medicine in the future.

Eleven Chinese Medicine students reached the top 20 in the first phase of the National Licensing Examination of Chinese Practitioner. They are Zhi-Chang Lin, Nai-Hwa Jheng, Hang-Jhe Li, Ruo-Yu Lin, Ru-Yuan Su, Jhih-Jyun Jhao, You-Sheng Liou, Mu-Huan He, Sih-Jie Chen, Yu-Fang Wang and Shu-Rong Jhang.
