Tzu Chi University Launches Green Jobs Program to Support a Net-Zero Future

To help Taiwan reach its 2050 net-zero goal, Tzu Chi University has launched a new Green Jobs Training Program. This hands-on program helps students and professionals build practical skills in carbon tracking, emissions reduction, and sustainable development—skills that are becoming more and more important in today’s world. What’s more, Tzu Chi students can join the program for free. It’s a valuable chance to explore new career paths in the growing green economy. Tzu Chi University has also been chosen to lead the Eastern Taiwan Training Center under the national “Net-Zero Green Collar Alliance,” supporting green development in Yilan, Hualien, Taitung, and nearby islands.

The first round of training runs from May 17 to June 15, 2025. It includes 48 hours of courses on climate change, greenhouse gas management, and carbon footprint calculation. Classes are flexible—with weekday, weekend, and evening options—so students and working adults can all take part. The courses are led by experienced professors from Tzu Chi University and National Dong Hwa University. Those who complete the training and pass the exam will receive a certificate from the National Institute of Environmental Research, helping them step into jobs in sustainability and net-zero industries.

This program reflects Tzu Chi University’s long-time dedication to environmental education and its care for both people and the planet. The university has steadily built a green campus and promoted net-zero and ESG values. Through this training, it hopes to nurture the next generation of environmentally conscious leaders. As Senior Vice President Dr. Chang-Hsien Tai shared, solving climate challenges takes teamwork across all fields—not just science and engineering. “At Tzu Chi,” he said, “we combine compassion and knowledge to bring about meaningful change, especially here in eastern Taiwan.”

To support participation, the Ministry of Environment is offering tuition subsidies. Students aged 29 or younger can apply for a NT$6,000 grant, and full support is available for those from low-income or special-status backgrounds. Tzu Chi University also offers extra funding to students who earn certification or assist with campus carbon audits.

Faculty and staff can join too. Twenty fully funded spots are available to help strengthen green awareness across the university community.
