2019 2nd Tzu Chi-Academia Sinica International Forum for Biomedical Sciences
In order to promote the academic exchanges and cooperation, Tzu Chi University and the Institute of Biomedical Sciences of the Academia Sinica jointly held the ” 2019 2nd Tzu Chi-Academia Sinica International Forum for Biomedical Sciences” at Tzu Chi University on October 4 and 5. This conference invites several foreign and domestic outstanding experts and scholars to share their inspiring research results, which gives the opportunity for students and teachers of Tzu Chi University to exchange and explore more biomedical information with domestic and foreign researchers.
In this forum, Professor Yinon Ben‐Neriah from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem reviewed the progress, benefits and shortcoming of targeted cancer medicine and discussed an emerging concept of targeting cancer vulnerabilities instead of traditional cancer drivers, which might be helpful for future targeted cancer therapy in clinic. Professor Dan Ohtan Wang from Kyoto University of Japan also showed that complex translational regulatory mechanisms are involved in building and remodeling of neuronal circuits and functions, which may be useful for elucidating pathways implicated in neurodevelopmental and neuropsychiatric diseases. Guo‐Qiang Chen, the vice present of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, suggested that
Pten gene is a double-edged sword for carcinogenesis and raised the cautions on interpreting the importance of PTEN in carcinogenesis and designing cancer treatment strategies that activate PTEN. Although previous studies revealed that nuclear PTEN was found to exhibit tumor suppressive functions in regulating chromosome stability, DNA repair, pre‐mRNA alternative splicing, and apoptosis, he showed PTENα/β also present tumor-promoting activity by regulating DNA methlation. Ph.D, Shangjr Gwo from Academia Sinica of Taiwan showed his efforts in development of novel surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy substrates for ultrasensitive Biochemical detection, an interdisciplinary research combined physic and biology.
Professor Rong‐Kung Tsai, Director of Institute of Medical Science of Tzu Chi University also showed that they have established iPSC platforms for studying the developmental stage of human retina in the in‐vitro culture system and performed preliminary study for understanding the potential of RPE cell therapy. He emphasized again this conference aims to foster more collaboration among experts, researchers, scientists and students to further strengthen and exchange information in the field of biomedical sciences and looked forward to be a successful and fruitful conference.
