Batik Kartini Day
On the evening of April 11th, the Office of Global Affairs (OGA) hosted a vibrant cultural celebration called “Batik Kartini” at 知足咖啡2, Jianguo Campus. Starting from 6:00 PM, the event brought together Indonesian students and the wider international community to celebrate two important aspects of Indonesian culture: Kartini Day, which honors women’s empowerment, and Batik Day, a tribute to Indonesia’s rich textile heritage. Organized by Indonesian students, this event served as a platform to introduce the beauty of Indonesian traditions and values to a broader audience.。
The event drew an enthusiastic crowd of around 90 participants from diverse backgrounds. Among them were local Taiwanese students, international students, and even learners from the Chinese Language Center, representing various departments such as Nursing, Business Management, and many more. This diversity added to the inclusive and welcoming spirit of the night.
Throughout the evening, attendees were immersed in Indonesian culture through a well-structured program that included presentations, videos, and live explanations about Kartini and batik. Traditional Indonesian food was served, sparking curiosity and appreciation among those tasting it for the first time. Guests also enjoyed a Kartini-themed photobooth, and took part in interactive sessions featuring traditional Indonesian games, making the night both educational and entertaining.
The overall atmosphere was joyful and full of energy. As the performances of singing and traditional dancing filled the space, the café buzzed with laughter, conversations, and the warm connections of people from different walks of life coming together.
Participants clearly enjoyed the event, with many expressing their excitement and appreciation. However, one piece of feedback was that more food should have been prepared, as the actual turnout exceeded expectations. Additionally, since the MCs were freshmen, managing the crowd presented some challenges. Even so, their enthusiasm and effort made a strong impression. They did a wonderful job for their first time, and showed real potential for future events.
Batik Kartini was more than just a celebration, it was a meaningful opportunity to share culture, build friendships, and create mutual understanding among students from different backgrounds. Events like these highlight the importance of preserving and sharing traditions, while also promoting values like equality and respect. Through the spirit of Kartini and the beauty of batik, we were reminded of how culture connects us all. We hope this is just the beginning of many more meaningful cultural exchanges to come.
